Flightmasters
Board Meeting 1-9-10
We reviewed the treasury report it was currently missing interest earned. We currently have 21 members signed up for 2010. No old business to handle.
Item#1: Name tags/cards: It was brought up that it would be nice to have our club member cards worn by the members at the field so we know they are actual members and to help learn the members names. We would still have to put a 2nd card in the slot in the frequency board. Jim offered the use of some cards. Nathan thought is would be a good idea to have a hole punch so that the card could be placed on the neck strap of the transmitter. It was decided that we’d like to at minimum try the name tag/card idea at a minimum for this year. We voted on the addition of the name tag and it was approved.
Item #2 Safety: It was brought up that we need to do a better job on safety this year. We need to have the safety officer say something more often about taxing airplanes back into the pits (No to do it). It was brought up to leave the grass longer in line with the flight line fencing in order to distinguish the flight line all the way down the length of the field. We can mow strips in the longer grass to allow planes access in and out at multiple locations. It was brought up that there are club members that do high energy flight directed at the pits and that it needs to stop. We need to let these people no that it is not acceptable to fly directly at the pits and pull up at the last second, something could happen mechanically to the plane and someone could be injured. It was suggested that we place a sign (or signs) on the current flight line fence talking about not taxing planes past flight line and no high energy flight towards the pits. We decided that we need to talk about these major safety issues at the up and coming field cleanup days since the majority of the club is present. It was agreed to place signs on the fence and discuss safety at the field cleanup day.
Item#3: Sheds: It was brought up that both sheds are not in very good conditions. It was suggested that we tear them both down and replace them with one structure. A steel framed structure similar to the canopy with walls and two over head doors one at each end was suggested. This would allow us to pull the tractor all the way through the shed. It was also suggested that we move the new structure next to the existing canopy to clear the south west corner of the field. Jim Bowers was going to look into some costs for the board. There was no action taken on this item at this time, just researching idea.
Item#4: Porta-John: It was brought up that more females would frequent the club more often if there was a decent john. It was suggested that we look into a Porta-john service again. We would have to relocate the porta-john up north by the entrance where Kevin B. pulls into service his cattle. It was suggested that we could probably keep cost down by buying an old porta-john and only having it serviced monthly during the season or as necessary. Thad B. volunteered to check on cost since his company uses a company frequently and has purchased one and done this at one of his locations. No action taken at this time, just researching idea.
Item#5 Suggestions: It was suggested that we have Kevin Bullard come to a board meeting this spring. Everyone agreed it was a good idea to buy him breakfast and solicit his council. It was brought up that we need to make sure that we hire an outside attorney every year to file our papers of incorporation with the state. Do not let a member do this, there is too much risk to the membership if the papers aren’t filed for some reason. Members could be held liable for an accident if the paperwork isn’t filed. We should never put the responsibility of filing the papers on a club member regardless if he or she is an attorney. This must be done consistently every year. It was brought up that we should look at possibly grading lane do to the washboarding. We decided to look at it but having a perfectly smooth lane may cause people to speed. No action at this time was recommended.
